I know this is a bit off-topic but it also has to do with software development.
Recently there was a discussion about executing java programs on different platforms and which platform performance-wise is best for executing such highly optimized hotspot-generated code.
What do you think about that? Are post-p4 processors planned to handle pipeline-unfriendly code better than currently Xeon does.
When starting some performance-tests I was very optimistic about the Xeons but we currently run a load-blanced java-middleware-cluster (25 x dual-cpu) and a 1 ghz "slower" Dual-Opteron gave us 50% better performance than a compareable Dual-Xeon.
Intel processors not optimal for executing java programs?
