Intel Atom: будущее наступает

Думаю, многие участники ISN заметили, что на прилавках страны в изобилии появились мультимедийные плееры с поддержкой HD-видео. Помню, в свое время меня потряс первопроходец в массовом сегменте WD TV, причем как размерами (с ладонь), так и ценой (меньше 10 000 рублей). Но вот и двух лет не прошло, а он уже кажется настоящим монстром, потому что без труда можно найти вариант меньше раза в два с половиной и тысячи эдак так за четыре с хвостиком. Внутри все эти плееры одинаковые, и, по сути, отличаются друг от друга лишь экстерьером да регулярностью обновления прошивки.

Max Payne: маленькое возвращение

В субботу у меня внезапно случился самый настоящий выходной - первый за очень долгое время. В связи с суровым графиком лет эдак с двенадцати, отдыхать я толком не научился, а ради одного выходного овладевать этим прекрасным мастерством, пожалуй, не стоило. Поэтому решил сделать давно задуманное, а именно установить на нетбук игру Max Payne. Точнее, первую часть, вышедшую в далеком 2001-м.

Sixense Motion Controller at Intel Lounge GDC 2010

One of the cooler demos was by Sixense at the Intel lounge, located at the North Hall of GDC. Here's a quick video showing off the motion controllers and a brief explanation of the unique magnetic field being used in to track the position of the controllers wirelessly in 3 dimensional space. The panaromic screens aren't bad either:-)



Ticker Tape Threading Demo at GDC 2010 Intel Booth

I stopped by the Ticker Tape demo at Intel GDC booth and shot this quick video. This demos shows the power and advantage of threading games and because its running on the new Core i7-980x (Gulftown) we can see the demo scale from 1 to 12 threads.



The message here; threading your games allows you to scale the experience to the hardware providing the best game play possible.

First Impressions of Intel Booth at GDC 2010

This is my first GDC and I have to say I'm pretty much blown away at the activity. The Intel booth has a lot going. There are about 21 demos including StarCraft II, Napoleon, Star Trek online, Cakewalk and most are showcasing how they've optimized performance and graphics for Intel architecture.

Here is a quick walk thru the booth about 45 minutes after the doors opened. It's now 2:15 and it has not slowed down.
