If community colleges are really where "the rubber hits the road…for helping students improve themselves," then professor Tom Murphy is the grease that keeps those wheels rolling. Prof. Murphy is the program chair of Computer Science at Contra Costa College, a small institution of higher learning about an hour’s drive from Silicon Valley. To that end, Prof. Murphy encourages students to participate in Hackathons, organized events at which software developers, designers, and people of related disciplines come together to work toward a unified goal. This talk illustrates how the Hackathons inspire and enrich the developer skills of his intercity students as they work with Intel engineers in a Code for Good Intel hackathon.
