Intel AppUp: News from Computex 2011

As always, day 1 of Computex turned out to be an exciting day full of new product launch announcements and launches. Sean Maloney, Intel executive vice president delivered a packed opening keynote and walked through new roadmaps across Intel Core and Atom Processor Families. He spoke of a new class of mobile computers called ‘Ultrabooks’ and also reiterated Intel’s push to accelerate the pace of innovation for Intel Atom processor-based system-on-chips (SoCs) for netbooks, smartphones, tablets, and other companion devices. In addition to our new product roadmap news at Computex, our Intel AppUp team also had many updates. We have many new opportunities, markets:  

  • New partners Acer, India-based Reliance Communications, Indonesia-based SpeedUp, Malaysia-based Evernew, FOSA, USA-based Awaken and Datavision are the latest companies to announce plans to join the Intel AppUp center in addition to existing partners such as Asus, Fujitsu, Best Buy, Walmart, Croma, Dixons, TigerDirect, CompUSA, Circuit City, HSN (Home Shopping Network) and more.

  • We also announced the opening of Intel AppUp center beta for MeeGo-based netbooks and tablets. To support the launch, Acer, Asus and Fujitsu netbooks will be sold with pre-loaded copies of the application store starting second half of the year.

  • Lastly, the Intel AppUp developer program is expanding to Germany and Spain. Starting today, applications in German and Spanish can be submitted to the program for validation. More information here and here
