Software must be both threaded and vectorized to fully utilize today’s and tomorrow’s hardware. Data-driven vectorization design can yield long-term performance growth with less risk and more impact. Even with perfect vector and thread parallelism, developers often have to additionally balance CPU/vector/thread utilization versus memory subsystem data bottlenecks. This aspect of optimization could often be addressed by using a rooﬂine “bounds and bottlenecks” performance model.
