The root password in edsc2012 Yocto Linux should be empty(just press Enter when being asked for password by the shell login)Maybe somebody changed the default empty password?Anyway you can mount the USB or SATAdrive into another host and change the /etc/shadow file to restore the empty password for root: the line can be like root::15413:0:99999:7:::

- Retrieving to /etc/shadow , i got result root::15496:0:99999:7::
- Using texedit that is available in qt app to change but i cannot save the file.

My board always gets stuck when booting USB using *.hddimg . So I use LiLi to burn image *.iso to make bootable USB. How can i mount that image to another host ? I have only a board. When boot the bootable USB in Virtual Box on PC, it stopped with hardware incompatibility.

So ... how can I edit this file outside the board or disable login requirement ?

Your "root::15496:0:99999:7::" should be fine except one thing: looks it lacks a : at the end -- I don't know what happened. I never heard someone else reported the same issue.I mean you should change the lineroot::15496:0:99999:7::toroot::15496:0:99999:7:::By default, when you booting the sato or sato-sdk .hddimg, it should boot to a GUI desktop and there is a terminal icon on the desktop. click that and as the root user, youcan use the vi utility to edit /etc/shadow.Booting .hddimg with USB should work. Please use the mkdiskimage/mount/cp/umount/syslinux method mentioned athttp://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/poky/tree/README.hardwareif the dd method doesn't work.If it just doesn't anyhow, try change to a new USB driver of different brands (this case should be pretty rare).I suppose the .iso image you mentioned should be built by yourself. Usually we prefer .hddimg to .iso because .iso is readonly.

btw, my previous post is for booting the esdc2012 board rather than qemu.I didn't test boot the esdc2012 sato and sato-sdk images with qemu, though I suppose it should work, too.

- QEMU is ok but i don't know how to config mouse move normally. I use VMware and i just only drag my mouse the to of QEMU screen when using qt4-demo-image, core-image-sato is ok for me
- My board usually appears in White screen with some colorful stripe when starting :|. If someone gets this problem, hold the restart button for a while => hold the start to turn of and turn on it again, it become normal.
- I usually get stuck at "Call trace: .... " command when using some images such as core-image-minimal, core-image-base in esdc2012 build

- I have an bluetooth board that tested successfully with PC using Python and its serial library. But in Hob there is no Python serial library :|. Moreover, is there intel board support USB CDC that creates an COM port when plugging the device into USB port ? I use /dev/ttyACM0 to connect my device on PC.

> My board usually appears in White screen with some colorful stripe when startingI occassionally got this issue, too. I suspect it's related to the CMOS battery somehow. After I removed it, looks I don't get the issue now.>I usually get stuck at "Call trace: .... " command when using some images...At this time the OS dies completely? Can you post the call trace?I don't think the ESDC2012 board has hardware support for bluetooth.Fro the "root can't login" issue, did you try the pre-built sato or sato-sdk images in the DVD disk?By default Yocto linux should boot to a GUI sato destop with an icon for shell terminal.

- I used to login root successfully on the board in the past. But after sending it to my friend, now i can't do it anymore :|. Now I'm working temporarily on Sato with Qt intergration on QEMU and board. Actually what i need is core-image-minimal.

- Of course the board doesn't support bluetooth hardware, so i have designed that boards already and tested it. I have 2 version applications to use: Java and python. Java I have not tested it yet because I have to add more meta-oracle that makes image become larger. However, python lacks of serial library :| I am trying to solve it

- I formatted my HDD in the morning , so there is no image in my PC now :D. OS probably isn't dead because in some cases I passed it. In general, the first time if I don't pass this call-trace, nearly 99% i will rebuild another image :|. Now sato and qt4-demo-image (although i know this image bases on core-image-minimal) work well on board. Maybe my board got true problems in hardware

Hehe, i don't know whether anyone has same problems as me. However, i find it interesting to do this project. Shouldn't use VMware to build YOCTO because it cannot shrink disk to become smaller remarkably unless using some tips, so deleted a lot files already, I also have the disk size be bigger :|

Ah, i want to ask you about yocto versions. I cannot distinguish poky, denzil, master, .... Is there difference between them ? In the past i used edison stable version. Now i use denzil stable version .Maybe i got problem when choosing one of them.

Poky is the Yocto Linux build system.Poky (master) means the development tree(the master branch ofhttp://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/poky/).Edison and Denzil are stable poky releases: they were released in Oct 2011 and April 2012, respectively.

- I build an original qt4-demo-image without adding packages. Result : login root successfully
- Adding gst-meta-base packages => login root incorrectly
- Qt4-demo-image with qt4-x11-free => login failed

Can you help me :(

hmm, it's pretty strange because I can't see any relationship between "root can't login" and "adding "gst-meta-base/qt4-x11-free"...I'll try if I can reproduce your issue today

Hi, I can NOT reproduce the "Login incorrect" issue even I built qt4e-demo-image with gst-meta-base installed.

- I build denzil the latest version using Hob. The poky-master has problem with building Linux-Yocto ~ the 1000th package
- I solved the problem by adding manually to qt4e-demo-image.bb and build it by Hob although it takes me a lot of time :|. Of course i cannot guess the reason, however i have done it already :D

- Ah, an application called "designer" uses for what ? Maybe it only help us design an form GUI ? Moreover, all the application built on PC require library files without "E". I download the source from Nokia website that installs on PC but it also has no "E" in the files tail. I have read a Yocto file that automatically add "E" to Qt lib when building image. I really have no idea about it.

- Sometimes a Qt application requires libXrender.so.1 that is not included. I searched it on the Internet and finally got it in QEMU image :|

- Some images with Qt integration usually have an error : "Cannot connect to X server" even $DISPLAY=:0

-- Glad to know the login works for you in some way.-- What's the "E" in the fail tail? I didn't know that before (I didn't develop Qt program for Yocto Linux).-- We had a recipe atmeta/recipes-graphics/xorg-lib/libxrender_0.9.*.bb. So you can simply add the package into the target image if you need that.--"Cannot connect to X server" even $DISPLAY=:0" -- do you mean sometimes it works while sometimes it doesn't? Looks strange.

- I and my friends work independently to test and all of them have the same login-error result. However, as i said before, I only login root when building original image , so i make a new image bb file and fortunately it works
- Yesterday I knew "Cannot connect to X server" error due to I didn't install X11 library yet

- I mean most of library files is liked as libQtDesignerE.so.4, libQtGuiE.so.4, ... and Qt on PC uses libQtDesigner.so.4 , libQtGui.so.4 ... So I try to change the name of library files on board and load the executable file from PC to board, and no error but my board gets stuck :|. I have no idea why they are made differently. I guess we must use compiler in board to build. Actually designer, qmake, uic are also available in image built but i cannot build a demo project

1. cd to a /usr/bin/qtopia/demos/mainwindow (for example)
2. (qmake -project)
3. qmake -o Makefile mainwindow.pro
3'. (uic ui files)
4. make

I do 4 steps on PC and it makes executable file successfully from a demo example but on board, a lot of errors :|
Can you show me an instruction to build an demo example and run it in qt4-demo-image ?

- I install gst libraries such as gst-meta-base, gst-plugins good, ..... but there is no audio when playing video. It said "Missing plugin" , MPEG codec , ..... Do you know what library supports it ?

yocto@yoctoproject.org(https://lists.yoctoproject.org/listinfo/yocto)?

Maybe you need to install gst-ffmpeg? what exact format are you playing?
I did test playing some HD .mp4 files, like http://wh0rd.org/sintel/sintel-1024-surround.mp4and both audio and video can work.

Thank you very much. I am testing
