Problems with Intel 945GM and 1680x1050 resolution

I have a Dell 6400, with Intel 945GM 256MB, Windows 7... Recently bought a 22" Philips Monitor, At first it was working well... in fact, it worked well for over 3 months... One day I decided to install a game (Portal) and played it for a while, after the next restart my Monitors resolution was maxed out at 1280x780.

When I played the game it stuttered a lot when at max 1650x1050 resolution, so I switched it off. I also updated Windows 7 with some of their standard update packages. I am not sure what caused the problem...

I reinstalled my PC from scratch, Installed latest driversfrom Intel, but stillno luck... I am trying to flash my BIOS with an update from DELL ( I have the same version ) just in case it changes anything.

I don't know what else to do... pls help...

MonInfo shows four Display IDs...

None of them refer to Philips... It says ABC display and all of them have wrong screen size...

What exact problem are you seeing? Is it the game stuttering at a high resolution?

Have you tried reducing the other graphics settings, like model detail, shadows, and such to Low? If you are still seeing slow frame rate, your game probably needs higher end hardware to play.

On the other hand, if you are seeing Windows stutter or desktop or any of the standard browser / office apps stutter, then a driver or BIOS upgrade should fix it.

I have a similar problem with a
-> Mobile Intel 945 Express Chipset Family <-
on a Toshiba Satellite U200 (Italian market model)

On Linux with kernel 2.6.25 I have no problems at all but using
-> Windows XP* Home Edition, Service Pack 2 (5.1.2600) <-
with your updated drivers
-> Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Mobile (6.14.10.4926) <-
when I connect an external monitor with 16:9 geometry the 1600x900 resolution is not recognized!!!

Cut&Past of the Information Tab of you setup/configuration application (the external monitor):

What I have to do to use the 1600*900 mode on the external monitor?
I have also tried with strange tool that will reinterpret the EDID but without any result.
Did you plan a new release of the drivers also for XP?
Thanks a lot for your consideration,
regards,
Antonio Barbalace
