iphone apps to atom

We are iphone developers and want to port apps to atom in the quickest possible time. The single biggest step is the GUI. Do you have any suggestions of how to go ahead ? We are looking at using forms (using C++ on Visual Studio 2008).

Observer,

Your greatest challenge in porting them will be:

1.) Removing all Apple SDK references
2.) Modifying your applications target screen size
3.) Targeting the X86 platform

Insertion of the ATOM SDK is possibly the easiest part of what you will be doing during your port. Something o keep in mind, is that some ATOM netbooks can detect orientation, like the IPhone. That would be a great feature to implement.

Best of luck,

Thank you for responding.

Can you please confirm this:

Is this supported ? (Forms ? )

Yes, many developers are implementing MFC in their entries. Best of luck.

Observer,

I'm sure what you mean by "forms", but the SDK places no restrictions on which UI technology you use for your application other than using the C/C++ runtime.

there are no tools that can make this process easy; but there are probably a bunch of elements that you can simply re-use, depending on how you implemented your iphone applications. if you wrote everything in objective C, you are probably going to have to do a lot of cut and pasting and reformatting it to C or C++ (not sure if there is an objective C compiler for windows or linux). the UI portion you will have to redo, completely in something like MFC (windows) or, if your targeting moblin - one of the X11 frameworks (glib etc).. dont limit yourself just to windows as well, there is also a linux target for ATOM (moblin, ubuntu et al).

when designing cross-platform solutions, you need to design with that in mind from the beginning. our games are designed for this in mind; and we can simply recompile and rebuild on almost any platform we like - right now we targeted iphone to capitalize on apple's success, but we will soon be releasing versions for windows, mac osx, linux.. we even submitted our first moblin version this week to intel for validation..

the bottom line; good luck!
