Big data on MIC

Big data on MIC

I am new programmer for MIC, I wonder if Xeon Phi can handle big data, say larger than 8GB which is the DRAM size on MIC?

Does MIC needs similar memory copy handles like GPU?

Hi Ben,

Like the GPUs the MICs suffer from the PCI bottle neck issue. If you have more than 8GB of data then you should design your code to split it in smaller chunks and use MPI to coordinate with other MICs in your system.However, I usually choose not to transfer too much data between the MIC and the CPU as this costs a lot of time. The main ideea is to minimize the data transfer throug the PCI slot but keep the MIC as busy as possible. If you have to process 100GB of data and you want to use the MIC it might not be feasable because of the data transfer overhead. You have to experiment and find a ballance.
