Setup and Configuration of Intel AMT

Setup and configuration is the process that makes Intel AMT features accessible to management applications. Intel AMT devices are by default delivered in an unconfigured state. Before management applications can access an Intel AMT device, the device must be populated with various settings such as network configuration and security parameters.

To set up and configure the Intel AMT device, use the Intel® Setup and Configuration Software  (SCS) available on the Intel website here.

All of the following setup and configuration information detailed in this guide is for general conceptual reference only in an environment without the Intel SCS.

Setup and configuration in the past was referred to as provisioning. There are still functions and structures in the SDK that use this terminology.

Setup and configuration are used almost as one word, but they are two steps that are required to prepare Intel AMT for use.

What is setup?

Setup establishes initial trust between management software and the Intel® Management Engine. It sets initial admin credentials and sets basic network parameters.

What is configuration?

Configuration defines other parameters and features, including, but not limited to:

   Advanced networking (for example, 802.11, 802.1x, and remote access)

   Definition of access control lists

   Definition of user privacy policies

   Setting parameters of specific features.
