Active/Passive Mode

Active mode is the condition when Intel AMT is responsible for controlling the authentication mechanism; passive mode is the condition when the operating system (Host) is responsible for authentication and Intel AMT does not interfere.

If the active/passive mechanism is enabled, it is activated when host fails to pass authentication and Intel AMT takes charge of the authentication process to enable access to the platform. If the active/passive mechanism is not active, Intel AMT will not take control of authentication even if the host fails to authenticate.
