Examples of Using the Storage Feature

The following are example management application use cases for the Intel AMT storage feature.

Software License Check in Power-Off State

You can utilize Intel AMT to obtain information about a computer’s software status while the computer is in a power-off state. An example would be an IT application that periodically checks the version number of installed software against the licenses applicable to each individual workstation. An agent running on the workstation would write the version and license information to NVM while the computer is powered on and the operating system is running. Later, when the computer is off, the remote IT console would read this information from NVM utilizing the Intel AMT’s Storage service.

Antivirus Verification in Power-Off State

You could utilize Intel AMT’s NVM storage capabilities by designing an application that would check each workstation in an enterprise while it is powered off to make sure that the workstation has an updated antivirus application installed in accordance with the enterprise’s most updated security requirements. An agent running on the workstation would write the antivirus update information to NVM at regular intervals while the computer is powered on and the operating system is running. Later, when the computer is off the remote IT console would read this information from NVM and compare it against the most updated security profile applicable to each workstation.
