Last summer I was lucky enough to be part of the first Intel Ultimate Engineering Experience in Chandler, Arizona at the Hilton Hotel. I had a lot of fun during my internship, I met a lot of people with the same interests as me and we all made connections and networked together. I still see a lot of people from IUEE in my classes and some I even contact out of classes just to hang out. Fast forward a year now I am an assistant in the program to Ui Luu (or Coach as we all call him) and Bassam Matar at Chandler-Gilbert Community College in the Ironwood building.
Every day that I wake up and go to work to setup for the day I have to remind myself that I am not a student here, I am not someone who is looking around for answers, but rather someone who holds the answers. Often times I find myself wondering when did I exactly grow up? When did I become the guy that spends his time writing emails to management, making inventory checks, checking attendance, and creating spreadsheets? I do not know when this happened, but I am enjoying every minute of it.
Often times I watch these students and remember all the fun I had at my IUEE camp and it brings a smile to my face knowing that these students are creating the same kind of relationships and contacts. I just hope that I can be as helpful and cheerful as the past IUEE assistants and program managers were to me during my time in the program last year.
