A new report put together by mobile analytics firm Flurry states that the use of mobile apps – not just downloads, although that is definitely a factor – surged by 115 percent over 2012 in 2013.
As the app ecosystem continues to grow at an astonishing pace, one of the emerging niches is apps developed especially with special needs populations in mind. That classification could include kids and adults with mental disabilities, elderly people, and people with special physical needs.
App discoverability – whereby an app that is targeted toward a specific user is able to be found by that user - is one of the biggest obstacles facing developers today. There are millions of apps out there, but app stores limit their discoverability to categories, curated top ten lists, the most basic of keyword searches, and overly simplified content directories.
